Dear Appleton Community…

Spell-a-thon!!!

Don’t forget to check out the Spell-a-Thon page on our website for important dates and information, including links to practice games! Click HERE to go directly there, or you can find it anytime at the top of our home page.

Have you heard about the incentives students can earn by participating in the Spell-A-Thon?

1. All participating students will receive a special treat from the PTA for a great community effort!

2. Students who spell their words 100% correctly will have their name displayed on the Top 100% chart and receive a recognition incentive from the PTA!

3. Classrooms with at least 75% of students earning $5 or more will receive an ice cream party!

4. Students who earn $100 or more will get to choose one of three different toys!

5. Students who earn $250 or more will receive a pizza party with Mr. Hafey!

6. The class with the highest earnings will receive a special party!

7. The student with the highest earnings will receive a trophy and school recognition from Mr. Hafey!

What Will the Spell-A-Thon Pay For?

Did you know that the PTA supports Appleton instructional aides who work with students who need extra help in reading and math? This is the largest yearly line item in the PTA budget at $18,000. These experienced instructional aides keep our students from falling through the cracks and help them reach new milestones. Thank you for supporting the Spell-A-Thon, our instructional aides, and our students. This is just one of the many important items supported by Spell-A-Thon funds.

Spell-A-Thon dates to remember:

Currently - Collecting pledges or money and study spelling words

Nov. 6-10 - Spelling Tests are given at school

Nov. 14 - Graded tests go home

Nov. 29 - Deadline to return collected donations

Parent/Teacher Conferences Have High Attendance

Once again Appleton families have shown how important their children’s education is by attending conferences in high numbers. 94.9% of students were represented by a parent or caregiver! This is such a vital part on not only the success of our school, but in the individual life of each student. Having a parent or caregiver invested to the level of taking the time to come to a Parent/Teacher conference changes everything for that student. So, give yourselves a high five, and thank you from all the teachers and staff for being such great advocates for students!

Weather Prepared Kids

The temperature is really dropping. Inclement weather can come in during the school day making recesses colder than it was when you sent your child off to school. Please send your child prepared to enjoy the outside with the appropriate clothing, we really hate to see kids still in shorts and t-shirts, make us cold just looking at them! ;)

We will eventually have several hundred coats in our lost and found by year end. If you write your child’s name inside their coat we have a much easier time getting them back to the correct owners. Thank you for helping us out on this!

Have a Spooktactular week!

Go Bookworms!
