APPLETON INFLUENCE

Last Thursday a former Appleton student and her mother made a special trip to Appleton to express how much our school made a difference in her life. Freya had come to us several years ago for her final year of elementary school. Yet, even with only one year at Appleton, there was a profound influence on her future.

I had the pleasure of walking Freya and her mother to the Lancheros and Phillips classrooms so they could express their thankfulness to these teachers. Mrs. Phillips had recommended Freya take up the cello and Mrs. Lancheros had seen a budding writer. Freya ran with those influences and assumed those identities. She is now an accomplished cellist and writer. Two skills that she used to apply for acceptance to a prestigious boarding school in New Hampshire. Freya leaves in three weeks to attend Proctor which is nationally known for its innovative experiential programs and she and her mother say it could not have happened without her Appleton experience.

Freya’s experience is one of countless examples from over the years where our teachers and staff members at Appleton have influenced the identity of a student for a positive future. We look forward to helping your child reach their potential too.

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO WAL MART

We owe a great BIG thanks to Walmart manager, Jeremy Rank and employee Frankie Romero. Walmart supported Appleton with a $3,000 grant and $200 worth of playground balls. The large grant helps pay for our reading interventionists who support students who are struggling in literacy. Frankie was instrumental in helping us get more fun playground balls for our kids. If you see these folks in Walmart, please give them a shout out of thanks

P.T.A NEEDS YOU!

Appleton’s great reputation and student achievements are directly linked to the generous volunteers who give the gifts of time and effort. A great way to volunteer and serve our school community is to participate in PTA. Our first meeting of the school year is Thursday, August 25 at 4:10pm in the Appleton library. If you are a parent of a kindergartner or first grader your incentive to participate is that your child’s educational experience at Appleton will be directly and positively affected for years to come. Our meetings last about one hour but often finish before that. Come dedicate a little time and find out what we are all about!

CARNIVAL SUPPORT

The Appleton Carnival will be September 9.  This is one of Appleton’s traditional fun events that supports many programs within our school (like our new Aquos Smart boards).

If you can support the silent auction it would be greatly appreciated.  We are accepting items that you, a business, or organization you are associated with, are willing to donate.  Free services, gift cards, and goods are all appreciated.  More than 1,000 people will attend the carnival.  Donating an item from your business is a great way to advertise. Send in donations or call Corey Hafey 254-6400 for more information.

Thanks in advance!

- Corey
