Dear Appleton Community…

Salvation Army Canned Food Drive Sets New Record!

The generosity of Appleton families never ceases to amaze me. The food drive set a new record of 10,118 items which is 381 items more than our previous record! Incredible! That’s 189 boxes full of food items! We won 1st place in the Burton Orthodontics/Salvation Army Food Drive!

Our office ladies: Lisa McClelland, Angie Wallace, and Suzy Flores provided a hot cocoa and cookie treat to the winning classes in both the primary and intermediate grades. Congratulations to Mrs. Crumpton’s and Mrs. William’s classes for bringing in the most items.

Thank you to PTA Volunteers for Staff Christmas Breakfast

Special thanks to Meagan Frahm, Laura Hughes, Joy Zeller, Wendi Ingle & Sheila Vrooman for putting together a wonderful Christmas breakfast for our staff. It’s so easy to recruit staff to Appleton because our PTA’s reputation for support is so amazing.

Four Appleton Staff Members Nominated for White Iced Awards

Nikki Summers (Second grade teacher), Julie Hickman (Math Interventionist), Katie Pollart (Reading Interventionist), and Instructional Aide, Mary Reekie, were recently nominated for D51 Foundation White Iced Awards. These recognitions are a reflection of their many years of effective teaching and intervention for students. We are so proud their names will be considered for these prestigious awards that designate elite educators. The White Iced Celebration is Saturday, Feb. 3 at the CMU Ballroom. Check out this link to this D51 Foundation sponsored event.

Spell-A-Thon Incentives!!!

  • Classrooms with at least 75% of students earning $5 or more received root beer floats on December 15th, and boy did they enjoy it!

  • Students who earn $100 or more will get to choose three different toys this week, always a hit!

  • Students who earn $250 or more will receive a pizza party with Mr. Hafey on January 25. Trust us, its more than just pizza!

Weather Prepared Kids

The temperature is really dropping.  Inclement weather can come in during the school day making recesses colder than it was when you sent your child off to school.  Please send your child prepared to enjoy the outside with the appropriate clothing. Those of you who tell your kids stories of growing up and walking 5 miles to school, uphill both ways, and through four feet of snow will appreciate that we go outside for recess even when it is snowing.  We do use a wind chill chart that guides our decisions for outdoor recess and helps us keep students safe during inclement weather.

Students/Staff only at Christmas Sing-a-long

Due to limited space, only students and staff are allowed to attend the Appleton traditional Christmas sing-a-long on December 21.

PTA Meeting in January

Start planning now to attend out PTA meeting in January. PTA is such a crucial part of the student success here at Appleton, and we need YOU to be involved! Plan on joining for about an hour in the library on January 25th, starting right after school (4:15). It takes all of us working together to keep Appleton a strong and growing place for kids to learn and thrive.
