Dear Appleton Community…
Four Appleton Staff Members Nominated for White Iced Awards
Nikki Summers (Second grade teacher), Julie Hickman (Math Interventionist), Katie Pollart (Reading Interventionist), and Instructional Aide, Mary Reekie, were recently nominated for D51 Foundation White Iced Awards. These recognitions are a reflection of their many years of effective teaching and intervention for students. We are so proud their names will be considered for these prestigious awards that designate elite educators. The White Iced Celebration is Saturday, Feb. 3 at the CMU Ballroom. Check out this link to this D51 Foundation sponsored event.
Ornament Night - A Christmas Time Success!
Ornament Night last week had an incredible turnout! Angelo’s Pottery tells us we nearly doubled the number of ornaments we usually decorate and likely had 500 Appleton family members show up in support. All of the profits and the generous cash and gift card donations will go to support Appleton families who need a helping hand during the holiday season. Thank you so much for your participation and generosity in this annual Appleton PTA sponsored event!
Grocery Cards for Needy Families
Christmas time can be a hard time for many families in our school. Students who normally get lunch and breakfast at school are now home for the holidays and it can be a stretch for families to provide food for their children. Would you like to donate a gift card to a grocery store? We will give gift cards to our families in need just drop them by the Appleton office.
Thank you for your generosity!

Hour of Code - Thank You Volunteers
We had a great turnout of parent and family volunteers in support of the Hour of Code last week. Our wonderful computer teacher, Camille Chapman was so appreciative of the extra help.
Weather Prepared Kids
The temperature is really dropping. Inclement weather can come in during the school day making recesses colder than it was when you sent your child off to school. Please send your child prepared to enjoy the outside with the appropriate clothing. Those of you who tell your kids stories of growing up and walking 5 miles to school, uphill both ways, and through four feet of snow will appreciate that we go outside for recess even when it is snowing. We do use a wind chill chart that guides our decisions for outdoor recess and helps us keep students safe during inclement weather.
Students/Staff only at Christmas Sing-a-long
Due to limited space, only students and staff are allowed to attend the Appleton traditional Christmas sing-a-long on December 21.
PTA Meeting Date Changed for December
Please Note PTA will now meet on Dec. 14 at 4:10 in the library.
Go Bookworms!
